The inaugural Indy Women in Tech Championship presented by Guggenheim concluded
today with a victory by Lexi Thompson.
Fans lined the ropes at The Brickyard Crossing Golf Course to watch 144 of the world’s best golfers compete for the IWiT Championship Title. The final stretch came down to Lydia Ko and Lexi Thompson. Ultimately, Lexi Thompson pulled away with a four shot lead over the competition to take home the inaugural Indy Women in Tech Championship presented by Guggenheim Title and the $300,000 winner’s check.
Lexi Thompson joined the tradition of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway champions after her final round of the IWiT Championship by kissing the infamous Yard of Bricks, drinking milk, and receiving a victory wreath.
Weeklong long schedule of events in addition to welcoming the world’s best 144 female golfers back to Indianapolis was designed to provide awareness and funding for specific women and tech initiatives, particularly those focused on robotics, STEM days and career transitioning for those re-entering the workforce.
The inaugural Indy Women in Tech Summit was held on Tuesday of event week. An audience of 400 people attended the summit to hear Dr. Mae Jemison, an American engineer, physician and NASA astronaut who became the first woman of color in the world to go into space when she flew aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 1992, talk about her experiences and inspirational story.
Golf fans enjoyed menu items from the best local restaurants, breweries and chefs including Cereulean, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, Daredevil Brewery and Sun King Brewing Company at byte @ THE #IWiTCHAMP Food Experience. The event showcased diversity in the Indy culinary scene, female chefs, restaurants and breweries.
The 2018 Indy Women in Tech Championship presented by Guggenheim will be back at Brickyard Crossing August 13-19, 2018.
