IWiT awarded Community Assistance Grant from Junior League of Indianapolis
Indy Women in Tech announced today that the foundation has been awarded $20,000 in a 2018-2019 Community Assistance Grant from Junior League of Indianapolis for the upcoming 2019 Ignite Your Superpower STEM Day. Indy Women in Tech will host the third annual STEM day on August 22, 2019 at IUPUI.
Junior League of Indianapolis’s Community Assistance Grants provide organizations with 501(c)(3) status support to meet community needs within the current Junior League of Indianapolis focus area.
“Junior League’s current focus area is preparing students for academic success,” said Marci Wilz, 2018-2019 Grants Chair-Elect of Junior League of Indianapolis. “After seeing the incredible impact that Ignite Your Superpower has had on the students the past two years, we want to make sure this event has the financial support to continue to change the lives of these young girls.”
With the support from Women & Hi Tech and Connor Prairie, the Ignite Your Superpower STEM Day invites over 600 local middle school girls to participate in hands-on learning and interactive exhibits in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics at a college campus. Students also have the opportunity to meet and learn from female role models about their experiences and the benefits of STEM careers.
“Our goal through Ignite Your Superpower is to share the wonders of STEM with these students and to ignite a spark in these young girls to get involved in STEM activities,” said Karen Maginn, Director & Chair of Indy Women in Tech. “This grant will allow us to reach more students in 2019 and make a number of enhancements that will make the student experience that much better.”
